Hurricanes Defeat Storm

In NBJHL action the Hampton Hurricanes started the New Year off with a win over the visiting Sackville Storm.

Despite out shooting the Storm 12 – 7 in the first the Hurricanes managed a 2 –1 lead after the first on goals by Evan LeBlanc assisted by Chris Forbes and David Phillips . Thomas Rice added the second goal after being set up by Matt Porter and Jessie Prescott. With 38 seconds left on the clock Yannick Savoie found an open Drew Arsenault to put the Storm on the board .
A short bench caught up with the Storm as the Hurricanes extended their lead adding 3 more in the second . Scott Lloyd scored unassisted , Chris Forbes made it 4-1 on a play set up by Brad Hooper and late in the period Forbes and Evan LeBlanc found Hooper in front of the Sackville net giving the Canes a 5 – 1 lead after two .
The Hurricanes didn’t let up in the third as Evan LeBlanc extended the lead less than 4 minutes in . Thomas Rice deflected Jessie Prescott’s shot from the point giving them each a two point evening . Evan LeBlanc netted the last goal for his hat trick and a four point night , Chris Forbes was credited with the helper giving him a goal and three assist for the game .
There were only four minor penalties handed out during the game with each team receiving two each . Pat Boyd faced 62 shots in the Sackville net while Andrew Rodgers turned away 23 to earn the win . Hampton’s next home game will be Saturday, January 10th when they host the first place Moncton Vito’s. Game Time is 8:15 at the Hampton Community Centre.
