Hurricanes Defeat First Place Vito's

In Saturday night NBJHL action goaltending made the difference as the Hampton Hurricanes handed the Moncton Vito’s their first season loss .

The Vito’s opened the scoring 59 seconds into the first on a goal by Jean-Samuel Lagace , Philippe-Alexis Vachon assisted on the play . With 1:52 left on the clock the Vito’s Pascal Dupuis and Adam Downey combined to find an open William Ford to put the Moncton squad up by 2 after the first 20 minutes .
The Vito’s extended their lead by three early in the second when Philippe-Alexis Vachon was set up by Eric Allen and Jean-Samuel Lagace which turned out to be the last Moncton goal of the night . After a strong performance stopping 19 of the 22 shots he faced Hampton goalie Matt Ingraham suffered an injury midway through the second and was replaced by Andrew Rodgers who shut the Vito’s down for the remainder of the game . With 2:18 left in the second Chris Harford set up Kyle Dobson to make it a 3-1 game after two periods of play .
Despite being out shot in the third the Hurricanes were the only team lighting the score board with four unanswered goals . At the 16:07 mark Riley Thompson assisted by Brenden Crawford made it a one goal difference . With 5:17 left on the clock Chris Forbes set up Evan LeBlanc to tie the game . Just a minute and 23 seconds later Brenden Crawford scored the winning on a play from Matt Porter and Ben Shephard . The Vito’s ran into penalty problems with 1:42 on the clock and again with only .33 seconds giving the Hurricanes a 5-3 man advantage . With the Moncton goal tender on the bench Hurricane Chris Forbes gained puck possession scoring an empty netter and the only power play marker of the game for a 5-3 Hurricane win .
Jeremy Gallant took the loss between the pipes stopping 19 shots . The Hampton duo of Matt Ingraham facing 19 shots and Andrew Rodgers 26 earned the Hurricane win .
Next weekend the Hurricanes time slot will be use for The Battle Of The Badges Game featuring Hampton’s Fire Fighters facing off against local RCMP in support of Hampton PRO Kids.
The Hurricanes next home game will be Saturday Jan 24th at 8:15 PM when the Kent Koyotes come to visit .
