Hampton Hurricanes Take Game Three

In the NBJHL Jr C best of five final the Hampton Hurricanes took a 2 – 1 series lead over the Western Valley Panthers in Hartland on Monday night with a 5 – 4 O/T win.

Hampton’s Chris Forbes opened the scoring at 11:09 of the first on a pass from James Hill for the lone goal in the first .
The Panthers came out strong to start the second scoring two goals in the first two minutes of the second off the sticks of Matt Warren and Jared Brooks , Brad Johnson and Aurele St Amond assisted on the first Panther goal while Jared De Merchant and Kyle Pattison set up the second . Hampton applied pressure midway through the second when  Ben Shephard and Sam Merrithew combined to find Dax Pattison at the side of the net tieing the game two all. Less than two minutes later Chris Forbes got his second of the night after again teaming up with James Hill to put the Canes ahead by one . Hill continued his play making getting his third assist of the night at 4:43 of the second finding an open Geoff Wilson giving Hampton a two goal lead after two .
Both teams saw end to end action in the third and it was the Panthers who had the upper hand after Jared DeMerchant  was set up by Jared Brooks and Kyle Pattison  and with 4:09 remaining It was Brooks once again finding an open Ryan Paul tieing the game to send it into overtime .
In over time both goal tenders were tested numerous times and it looked like the game would go to a second OT but with 2:11 left Hampton’s Geoff Wilson on the back check stole the puck from a Panther defenseman and broke in on the Western Valley net firing a shot to the top right corner for the game winner.
Hampton’s Matt Ingraham faced 52 shots for the win while Panther Patrick Godreau saw 35 shots in a losing cause.      
Game 4 is scheduled at the Hampton Community Centre Saturday night, game time 8:15pm and game 5 Sunday afternoon in Hartland at 12:30pm.
